Pakistan Television (PTV) has recently started telecasting Turkish series Diriliş: Ertuğrul with Urdu dubbing upon the special recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The series is being telecasted at PTV Home at prime timings so that maximum people may get time to watch it during Ramzan.

Diriliş: Ertuğrul that has also been termed as Turkish Game of Thrones is a historical fiction and adventure series reflecting the history and culture of Muslim Oghuz Turks in the 13th century. The creator of the series is Mehmet Bozdağ, while Engin Altan Düzyatan played the lead role. The recording of the series was done in Riva, a village in Beykoz, Turkey, and it was on aired on Turkish national television TRT 1 on December 10, 2014. The series revolves around the life of the founder of the Ottoman Empire Ertuğrul. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along with his wife has been visiting the shooting sites of this series.

Soon after the first episode of the series got on aired on the state television, people out there welcomed it and made #ErtugrulUrduPTV a top trend on twitter in Pakistan. Various Facebook and WhatsApp groups were named after the series and got flooded with the praises and compliments.

A Facebook page Ertugrul Ghazi Fanx Page wrote, “earlier in Ramzan, different reality shows were played on TV but this time Diriliş: Ertuğrul will be telecasted. Salute to Imran Khan.”

A professor in Islamic studies wrote on his Facebook wall that playing of Diriliş: Ertuğrul on state television is a wonderful step taken by the government of Pakistan. He further wrote that this series should be screened specially for the defense and security forces of Pakistan.

A senior journalist Ali Ahmad Dhillon wrote on his timeline that PTV had given a tough time to the owners of other private media channels in Pakistan by running the show on prime timings. He appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan for this smart move.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has always been stressing upon the need for promoting Islamic culture and civilization so that the young generation may get some knowledge about the Islamic heroes.

In his recent meeting with famous YouTubers here in Pakistan, he also praised the content of this show. He said, “the show is quite interesting and it depicts the Islamic culture.” He further said “a third-hand culture is being promoted here in Pakistan as Hollywood’s content is copied by Bollywood and it is further copied by Lollywood. I feel bad that Bollywood copies the worst things from Hollywood but it does not get the things which have been their strength. That already copied content is then injected to our youth here in Pakistan. All I want is that our youth must come to know the difference between them and us. They must understand that besides these Hollywood and Bollywood things, we have a Muslim culture as well.” He said that the content on TV directly affects the family system of a society. When vulgarity rises in a society, the family system starts going down, he added.
